Open Roads Travelled

Do these roads truly exist anymore?
Long winding roads through open lands,
Wondering to ourselves, what will it have in store,
These open roads travelled, holding the steering wheel in hands.

Do these roads truly exist anywhere?
Cities come closer together as we gather,
Structures dotting the streets, where trees used to care,
These open roads travelled, this soul would surely take to, rather.

Do these roads truly exist anymore?
Leisurely drives reaching for Sunday breezes,
Searching the countryside, outside the house,  the door,
These open roads travelled, memories strong, oh, yes, just teases.

Structures dotting the streets, where trees used to care,
These open roads travelled, longing of days to find, if you dare.

"Do these roads truly exist anymore?" Great question that makes me ponder the quality of memory and the change of landscapes over time. Cheers, Petrina

There's a wistfulness here, a sense of soemthing lost, or something being lost. Nice one.

Wonderful verse, as the whole poem shows us where we have been and what we have done. Kind of sad in away isn't it?

I love the question, "Do these roads truly exist anymore?" Funny how that one question stirs memories of yesteryear. Looking back and wondering, Do these roads truly exist anymore? I wonder.

I too love the question -- and your ponders of the answer.

Where I live, in southern Alberta -- they do exist. You've just got to get out of the city to find them.

Love the idea of the trees caring. Nice.

And thanks for dropping by my place! Nice to see you again on this road called life! :)

The breathtaking roads still exist here in the Welsh mountains and countryside, but your poem bids the question, how long for?. A wonderful thought provoking poem.

The question does hit at the heart of longing that has been swarming in all city dwellers. I love how you pose it in your poem but I really like the last line especially the dare--"...These open raods travelled, longing of days to find, if you dare." Really nice poem! Thanks, Petrina!

Do these roads truly exist anymore?
i like how you start this with a question - much deeper than just asking for real roads - and i so hope these roads do still exist in all their beauty and with the freedom they carry..
happy one shoot!

Those roads, they exist in the mind, at least, and in your words. "..where trees used to care..." Great line, and very visual, thoughtful overall take on the prompt.

I agree with all of the comments...the sense of wistfulness and yet a longing that reminds it truly is counter-cultural to travel these roads...

loved it! Abby:)
