Trios of yesterday, three in the day,
Corsets hidden beneath dresses so fine,
Lace, buttons, derrieres all to sway,
Ladies proper, Victorian vintage and fine.
Out in the snow, will give it a skate,
Who will try first, these dresses deplore,
The ice looks smooth, we mustn't wait, But for this event, less definitely be more.

Who might see, should we give a try,
Looks so inviting, white blanket and all,
No boys around, no parents to spy,
Oh, but we're ladies, what to do if we fall?
Looks so inviting, white blanket and all,
Oh, but we're ladies, what to do if we fall?

Oh the ladies, from 1905. Lovely poem on the prompt. ☼
Thanks this is fun-I did not catch the skate thing
until after I wrote swords!
Pick up those skirts and give it a twirl, my ladies! Lovely!
Lovely Magpie, I hope the ladies had a great old time of it, how did they skate wearing those clothes?
I love "trio of yesterday". Very nice.
Lol Petrina, They look like they're daring each other. :)
LOL, love it.
Delightful!
Love your take on the ladies. What would they do if they fell?
your poem here is the gentlest, lyrical, call to play... very nicely done...
Indeed, if these ladies fall, they will be protected by all those layers!!
I would think the layers wouldn't let them all. Interesting take on the magpie.
Very genteel ... lovely lines in this Magpie.
I like it very much.
Wave a hankie and find a beau to help you up:) Sweet Magpie.
No falling allowed! If any ladies can pull that off, it's these three!
You are right, I wonder how they got up if they fell...had to be dreadful in all that mess of clothing...bkm
Get up and try again? LOL
You brought the picture to life.
Love the wordplay, and the way you played with those 3 ladies! I wonder, too, how they could have skated in those dresses with all those contraptions underneath.
"Lace, buttons, derrieres all to sway..." Yes, the whole entire movement had to be hauled along... I just can't imagine! Sweet poem.
I can't imagine how uncomfortable it must have been to do the simplest things back then-- all decked out from head to toe. Nice take on the prompt!
Looks so inviting, white blanket and all
Snow does have that effect on osme people - me, I hide!
You made me smile! And lifted my spirits -- lol -- what to do if they fall! How perfect. Good thing their dresses cushion their fall.
And thanks for dropping by my place. I really appreciate your comments and encouragement and light.
This is lovely one of the best I have read.
Have a nice week end,
joanny
love the rhythms of your words.
well penned.
stay blessed,
stay playful with words.
Happy Friday!
haha! Well hopefully laugh, if a spill is taken! Really though, I am glad I don't have to tie myself into all of those accoutrements to face the day.
Made me smile a lot, this one did. More so because I always fall on my arse in winter. Usually as I step out the door.........
Loved the writing and unlike most settings for such dress, indoors with perhaps a maid or two to assist, as a practical person, I wondered if there might arise a serious problem when one needs to go the bathroom? Oh dear!
Tee hee, good one. I hope they're excellent skaters and the problem will not arise. :)
Greetings, Happy Sunday! Blessings…
Friendship Awards, Enjoy!
Thanks for the support, You Rock!

Such a sweet, lyrical piece.
yes, what to do if we fall; imagine a spin onthe ice on such thin blades against all the layers of clothes....nicely done
Nice! All those layers and layers of "stuff"--what might they have done?
