Is This Not Wisdom

They say that wisdom comes
with age, that it is knowledge
gained over time, through
life's experiences,
yet...

when you catch the wonder
in the eyes of a small child
as he examines the
delicate lines and
soft colors of
a butterfly

or when his stride hesitates
to sip in the beauty of the
solitary rose in Mom's
flowerbed

or she unearths the vines,
roots and all, of Dad's
prize pumpkin, just
to see what makes
it grow so much
bigger than all
the others

she runs excitedly in declaring,
"Mom, the skies on fire!"
you step out to behold
the most vibrant sunset
you have ever
seen

I ask you then...
is this not a wisdom
that so many of us
can learn from?

Petrina,
Certainly! It is wisdom in all its wonders. Wisdom nurtured through the wonders and pleasures of discoveries! Great thinking and great verses!

You are so right! Looking at the world through the eyes of a child can teach us so many things: wisdom, patience, wonder, awe, appreciation and, if we are fortunate, gratitude.

my, oh my ... how I agree to the fullest! I think the more we grow and the more we see evil in the world, the more we experience hurts the more our emotions of grief and sorrow grow... as we grow the doubt our faith is starved we we become less mindful of the beauty surrounding us and lost in a sea of hurt and a crazy rushed life we make for ourselves as we fall into the pattern of this world.... It's a microwave world... we forgot how slow cooking tastes so much better and how we appreciate the time and love put into it. GREAT POST!

Yes, we the adults who pride ourselves to be the sole owners of knowledge have been caught flat-footed with this whisper of staggering truth. I so love the 'wisdom' in the poem.

Pablo Picasso said this: "All children are artists. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up." It is that sense of constant surprise and complete delight that we see in children. May we all have those traits in full measure!

A child can be thoughtful sometimes. Nice piece of writing.
