Walking, the soft damp sand slips
between our toes as we approach
her beauty. The pilings stretching
between our toes as we approach
her beauty. The pilings stretching
to touch the blue skies, billowy
clouds lying there like satin pillows.
Further we stroll along the shore,
arriving... the sun drenched warmth
firm... yet roughened by the misty
breezes. She is splintered almost,
beneath our steps, ever enticing.
The length of her lines narrowing
as she reaches forth to meet the
icy white waves in the distance,
longing for us to tread there, just
at the horizon's razor sharp edge.
Come, walk with me, feel the misty
breeze brush against your paled skin,
gently embracing your soul. And in
this place feel her engulf with the
softest silk cloth, burning now...
The sunlight scorching the damp
wooden path, grooved by days
gone by. The air ever so thick,
showering the suns warmth as
the sea completes her stretch.
Yet in this ever moving world,
stillness overtakes the essence
of this place. A comforting
serenity fills the dimming skies,
lit on fire like a burning log.

i just want to sigh...would love to take a walk along the shore...breathe the air and just soak in its rhythm....a fire on the beach would be nice as well...
Hey - i have to thank you - i have been sat at the lap top all day stuck to the board and you have just given me a blast of the world and made me book a hike for tommorow am.
Thanks for the poetic trek
A walk by the sea shore can be most rewarding. It fills the gap of yearnings for goodness in life and presents a challenge. Beautiful poem!
I'm off to find a satin pillow and appreciate the lovely calm you've brought with your poem. Thank you.
Love the images... like razor sharp horizon, satin pillow clouds, the peace of the ocean likened to the comfort of a fire in the fireplace.

this is stunningly beautiful, Petrina! your imagery is exquisite. the textures are palpable. definitely my favorite (so far.) ♥ {smile} dani
Plenty of textures here! And I fell in love with your last line. It perfectly describes the photo of the setting sun sky when we went camping last week at the lake. I may ask your permission to quote that line if I ever post that pic.
Captures the visual imagery beautifully. Nice description.
A compelling composition. The image of stillness overtaking it all is a brilliant thought extremely well contrived. The feelings with which the poem left me were exactly appropriate.
Beautiful. I love the texture of sand between my toes as I walk a beach!
The beach is such a primal place. I swear we could fall off the horizon or walk on water there. I like the image of the sun being like a burning log.
I am returning your visit to be greeted by such a beautiful poem. Stunning!
Come, walk with me, feel the misty

Just wonderful!
Your descriptive words made me feel like I was there. Lovely poem Petrina. I have no skills at critique because I'm so new at this. All I know is your writing just keeps getting better and better.

Very evocative of a walk on the shore.
I enjoyed my walk on the beach, the sand between my toes. You allowed me to share it with you and worked in the textures of the experience very well. There was a serenity to this. It made me think of a place not far from you (if I'm not mistaken)--Lake Isabella. I spent many days there as a child...even before they built the dam and allowed the Kern River to cover what used to be Kernville. Thanks for joining us at dVerse. Victoria
Ah, so lovely. I felt every word.
So many textures to savor (can one savor textures? I guess I did!) in this poem. I love the final two lines-just gorgeous!
Such beautiful imagery! Sounds like heaven.
thank you for the birthday wishes today at dverse...and sharing a bit of my day with me...

Beautifully written and such a peaceful write. Lovely :)
I love it....what a wonderful poem...I used to write poetry when I was young....maybe I will give it a go soon!!!
Have a wonderful day!!!
I love this Petrina. It takes me back to the summers of my childhood when we walked the nearly deserted beaches of my Aunt's island home. There are days I feel such a pull to the ocean. This poem was a little like being there.
Dearest lady reflecting in Southern California,
You have NO idea how much I would love to take to the mist and that razor sharp horizon, icy waves in the distance. Texas is so freaking HOT, and has been breaking records all summer.
But snug in your poem I am at the shore with you -- thanks for the breezes of calm in this.
oh i can feel the sand between my toes when reading this...such a beautiful and soothing atmosphere...you stirred my longing for the ocean petrina...
just swinging in to say happy Sunday, look forward to your 3rd eye piece...smiles.
this brought comfort like a warm quilt....so many layers, textures, a beautiful write :)
