What dish has this world served you,
That you must try to take some of mine,
That you should violate my world,
Leaving me to wonder...
to wonder if you made your way in.
Are things so bad that you must,
Fight this life of it's good, taking at will,
Another's freedom, freedom to be,
Stealing away the security,
the security of home's locked door.
What is it that you needed so badly,
That you must try to violate the wall,
Penetrating deep within one's being,
Leaving me to wonder,
to wonder if you made your way in.
Are things so needed that I must,
Fright of life, value all that is there,
Possessions being all, things being all,
Security lost, stolen away,
the security of home's locked door.
What is it that we need so badly,
That we must fight for what's ours,
Guarded, locked tight, never to lose,
Leaving me to wonder,
to wonder if you made your way in.

Deep meaning and powerful words. Excellent.
Very thought provoking piece of poetry.
A very strong poem...tis sad we live in such a world.
There certainly are degrees of intrusion to
violate- If you have never experienced it
it is hard to comprehend. I find it visceral.
There is no if.
A very emotional poem! So much to think about, perhaps to change :-)
@ izzy... I would tend to agree that there is no if, I have been broken into before. But this stems from what appears to have been an unsuccessful attempt. Back doors messed with, along with my electrical panel, but does not appear they actually got in.
We all like to believe our home is our sanctuary however when it is violated it creates a shift in our psyche, leaving us vulnerable. Enjoyed your write...

Leaves me wondering too, in regard to people crossing lines of decency and civility. Powerful write, especially the echos of violation and vulnerability.
Wow, that is really a great poem!
This is great. I feel your anger, the dismay of your unanswered questions. This was strong.
I know it feels so awful to have strangers break in to our homes. Glad it wasn't worse though.
Very strongly felt emotions in this one. I could feel the sense of violation, fear, confusion. It's sad that we should ever have to feel this way.
Oh, this flowed very well. A thought provoking piece. All I have is a 100 lb pc... Nice one shot! JH
I like the way you open this piece - pulling us right into the poem with a real action that can also be viewed as a metaphor.
Writing a poem is a great way to deal with the feelings of violation after being robbed - of anything, not only material possessions. Hope you didn't experience it in real life!
Very nice poem!
I too liked the opening...it pulled me into the rest of the poem...very nice.
Very powerful words indeed, great poem! :)
oh this is such a strong piece ....I can feel the passion you have in your work!!! Brilliant....
Well expressed and powerful...I sense anger and sadness all at once.
Oh, this is so thought provoking and beautifully expressed, Petrina.. it's sad to see a world in which we have to keep claiming and protecting what's ours... (sigh)
A very gripping one shot read, my friend!!
Your poem surely hit it on the head. It is not just home invasion that shakes us to the core, but assault...Your poem gave me so many back flashes as I have experienced both...
hey, thanks for stopping by, and for commenting =)
Dear Petrina
Very emotional and evocative. I enjoyed your verse very much specially in the end where you said it so beautifully....

very well done poem , I loved the tone of it , trying to understand the people who hurt us , I love when a poem takes a subject , starts with it on a singular personal level , and then takes it to a plural global level , making it so grand as a story of an ancient myth , keep up the good work :)
Powerful poem...well written
Very powerfully written! Strong emotions.. speaks a lot of mindly turmoil that often disturbs an individual's thought pattern..
Loved your execution.. Kudos for the rawness expressed!
Hugs xoxox
oh this is really wonderful. It is feels very powerful and passionate.
A door can be so many things..maybe the door in your mind can always keep you safe..and let good things in as well..Thanks for your visit..Jae
Extremely powerful and moving.
very passionate and strong poem.
Petrina is a wonderful name!
Such deep emotions with those powerful words. So well done.
Thanks for visiting my blog and your comments. ACEO stands for Art Card editions and originals. The only rule is that is must be 2 1/2" by 3 1/2" the size of a sports trading card. They can be any media, any paper, collage, watercolor, you name it. If it is a print it is not an original of course, but an edition. These cards are very popular and are purchased by collectors all over the world. Many craft stores carry pre-cut blanks in various papers but I usually cut my own.
powerful poem. The ending seems to give new meaning to what was said in the beginning.
Reflections I wanted to say thank you for your kind words on my OSI post but I could not find a similar post so I thought I would post it here. BTW I am in So Cal as well in the San Fernando =)
Holy Toledo! There should be a poster with that on it so we could send it to the ones in our lives who need to read it!
