Winter Plays
The bitter cold blankets in purity,
Standing tall, arms reaching to catch snowflakes,
Moisture fills your lungs, billows of breaths rise,
Earth, air, water melding in harmony.
Snow-angels left, the passerby to see,
Pathways walked showing the winding it takes,
The whiteness in melodic form to skies,
Winter's sweet prayers here in unity.
Pure innocence laughs as it plays to thee,
The man made by young ones stacked up like cakes,
Black hat, a pipe in his mouth, charcoal eyes,
Gratitude sways, sounds of a symphony.
Out in this wonderland for all to be,
Dancing across the frozen tablet lakes,
Words, thoughts, dreamers here forever to rise,
Curtain call comes, the skies become sunny.

I will be linking this to a few places where I like to share with other writers... first would be Jingle Poetry for their Potluck Poetry Monday where this weeks theme is Nature: Plants, Creatures and the Cosmos. Next would be over at One Single Impression for prompt 144: Meld and last but not least to Writer's Island for their prompt this week of Gratitude. I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and those here in the States, a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Earth, air, water melding in harmony.
- though it talks of winter, the felling left behind is nice and warm.

...
love your word painting here,
very artistic and beautiful...
Happy Monday.
A beautiful word picture. It seems to have a rhythm and sweep like wind across the snow.
Lovely. Brrrr. It made me feel the cold blanet of fun.
'The man made by young ones stacked up like cakes,
Black hat, a pipe in his mouth, charcoal eyes,'
The perfect snowman. Like the image of it. And a very beautiful and cold wintry poem.
Petrina,
I love the imagery you have written about here.
I can feel the wintry coldness.
And a happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.
Pamela
I am not a huge fan of snow or winter, but your words may just change my mind. brilliant
cheers
I could feel you dancing with winter in this what lovely words you have written.
All good things that the snow brings has to end when the sun shines and that heralds some more wonders of nature from another season to meld.
amazing imagery... absolutely beautiful poem :D
Petrina, lovely winter poem...I can look outside and see it.
Great write,
Cheers!
crisp and clear are your words of the dreaminess of life in all its beauty and doings...
I really enjoyed this - lovely poem and picture too. We had a sprinkling of glittery snow, but it melted in the afternoon sun. I don't think we've seen the last of it, though.
How beautifully you captured the feeling of the cold of winter and snow and how quickly it can dissipate with the coming sun. Very nice...
I'm knee deep in winter and not thrilled about it! Your words, however, present a most gorgeous image and surely don't require that I grab a shovel forthwith. Nicely crafted and visually vibrant!
I love reading poems about the seasons ... particularly winter since I never get to experience such things as cold weather and snow. It's summer where I live pretty much year round. Thanks for sharing!
Oh my! So lovely. :)
I think the last stanza sums it up nicely! :) Love the photo!
What a great poem singing the praises of winter!
Thanks for the vicarious snow fix--here in the southwest we rarely see it. When we do, it is gone with the sun, so your poem's ending was perfect.
just the perfect way to say how the winter feels these days.
You have written a great winter.
Really brilliant poem...
The picture and the poem meld so well into each other :)
really beautiful....and i don't usually like winter..lol -- but you've sung it's praises well...such a sweet melody..
Very descriptive--nice!
In sunny California I rarely saw snow except when the air was clear and the mountains were visible. Now snow brings several thoughts to mind. Travel, risky. Beautiful landscapes and fun, yes. Your poem brings out the best of beauty and fun. Thanks.
I felt very comfortable reading this nice poem. I know snowy winters having grown up in Nebraska and then living in New Hampshire for three years. But I didn't 'place' myself there. Rather, I just enjoyed reading this in light of my background.
I also liked your structure. Yes ten syllable, pentameter, but not pure iamic. The second and final verses' last line were a nine count. Your rhyme scheme is perfect as well!
All in all, very beautifully written! Thank you, teacher.
..
Read it, smiled.. saw it..smiled more.. well done..
poignant photo, heart-rending words
a lovely look at winter. and thanks for your so very nice comments.
This is absolutely beautiful. I love winter, I enjoyed every line.

I never get enough of snow angels. And yes, I still make them with my little old self. :)
A symphony of gratitude...you painted that picture very well
