What be the Words

What be this life succumbed
By the harshness of seasons past,
Beheld in hearts not forgotten.

This day but a distant thought,
Muddled memories in the halls of time,
The stone tributary left.

Times natural erosion
Fractures the stone faced memoirs,
Etched with the counting of days.

But what be the words still
To echo from the heavens in prose,
Laid upon the hearts of babes.

Yet to wonder what meaning dost hold
Within the soul of this one lost,
Brought forth to light the hereafter.

Magpie Tales #38

nice...old school phrasing...when my MIL passed away the words failed me for days until the moment i gave the funeral...

I really like the first 2 stanzas!
I wonder about your choice of 'memoirs'
we all work these differently- I think this
is worthy of tightening-no offense
intended- (my editing is relentless!)
Thanks.

This is an elegant poem. Your choice of somewhat formal language enriches the intensity.

Thank you all for your kind words... it was challenging, but a fun piece to work on.

I have often thought about lessons that will hold timeless and the ones that are often contorted and which are which sometimes. It seems that a lot of sayings that are elder lessons have lost the strength of there meaning today (ie don't put the cart before the horse. early bird gets the worm. Riding on a gravy train with biscuit wheels, She makes good brown gravy.) Things get a little "muddled" with technology ...My best guess. Peace be with you.
