This poem has been wanting to be written for a very long time. Recently I was a little closer to a situation that hit hard on my heart, making fresh old memories in time, probably freeing the words from deep within my being.
Elusive Remains...
Somewhere in the darkness of the night,
Should I answer, could this be the day,
That wonderful day when you just might,
Might be standing beyond the doorway...
The phone ringing, please let it be you,
'Unknown Caller' across the display,
My heart in my throat, skips a beat too,
If only someone, somewhere would say...
The news that you have been waiting for,
I called, saw him earlier today,
It was here in town, down by the store,
He asked to see you, if not he may...
Elusive remains, mysteries too,
What happened on that long ago day,
Everyone searching, looking for you,
At a distance, I guess you must stay...
One day, somewhere in time, I will know,
Whether or not, that you are okay,
For now my heart breaks, I can not show,
Always to wonder, where do you lay...
Hoping and praying, this I must do,
Searching myself to find a new way,
Wondering always, could that be you,
Beheld in my heart, always this day.

I am glad you were inspired to write this and please feel welcome to post more than one poem to One shot
This poem would even fit for a veteran who never comes home it has that far away feeling of hope and waiting
Thanks!!!
Beautiful piece. =) It sounds like music when I read it to myself. I'm always wishing I could write long poems, but I just never seem to have enough words. =/

This hurts my heart. Reminds me of a wayward/missing child. Blessings to you.
oh this one has a heaviness to it...i was thinking this would make a wonderful song...might break a few hearts but...
Lovely! and yes the universe has a way of answering us- today, tomorrow- so we keep praying.
And thanking!
This is so heartbreaking Reflections, but it is an amazing and powerful poem indeed! :-)
This was so sad. I kept thinking of how parents may feel at the disappearance of a child. Of course, a disappeared lover can break the heart too.
Well done.
A creation takes its time to take birth and when the time comes.. it happens.. wonderful poetry.. inspiring.. deep.. well done..

Sad but hopeful- Nice poem!
This one breaks my heart :( too sad
The ABAB rhyme works well to keep this piece moving nicely Reflections. The longing is written heavily in the lines and it gives heart to the piece. I hope you find an answer one day

Very thoughtful and introspective poem. Sometimes we all have wonder like that. Nicely done.
Very nicely done Trina,
You know I have that one person in my life that I always wonder about. She chooses to stay away, but when ever I get a unknown caller, I wonder.
